Hiking on the Wilder Kaiser

The Wilder Kaiser-Brixental region in the Kitzbühel Alps is a true paradise for hikers and mountain sports fans. The hiking region consists of more than 700 kilometres of marked hiking trails and amazing views from a total of 70 3,000-metre mountains. On hiking holidays you will find hiking trails and mountain tours of all levels of difficulty: leisurely family hikes, impressive panorama trails and challenging summit tours await you.

With your guest card, you can also take advantage of participating in many guided hikes with specially trained mountain guides from the weekly programme.

For the guest of our apartments we have chosen three very beautiful hikes:

Hiking from Hintersteiner lake to the Walleralm

Hintersteiner lake is Tyrol’s most beautiful and cleanest natural lake and is situated at an altitude of 882 m in the heart of the Wilder Kaiser nature conservation area.

The 8 km-long hike from Hintersteiner lake to the Walleralm gives you great views into the Sölleukental valley and the surrounding mountains. At the Walleralm you will enjoy typical Tyrolean dishes to prepare you for the trip back towards Hintersteiner lake.

On the eastern shore of the lake you will find a swimming area – perfect for a well-deserved cool-down after your hike.

Hiking on the Elferweg – from Hartkaiser to Astberg

Trail number 11, also called the Elferweg, truly deserves its distinction with the Austrian hiking seal of approval: on a panorama trail, you will hike 13 km from Hartkaiser to Astberg. This hike takes up to five hours.

This trail is especially wonderful for hiking with kids: you will pass Ellmi’s Zauberwelt on the Hartkaiser, a park with lots of adventure and play opportunities for kids.

The Sonnseitrunde – an adventure trail in Ellmau

This five-hour hike begins in Ellmau and runs towards the Wilder Kaiser to the Wochenbrunner Alm, situated at an altitude of 1,080 m above sea level.

On this trail you will pass by many special places:

  • The Ellmauer Steinkreis (Stone Circle) with its natural energy force field
  • The Wochenbrunner Alm with its small wildlife park where you can observe deer and mountain goats
  • The Koglerbauer farm with its exotic llama herds
